Pictured above: the Reynard 97I uses a six-speed transverse gearbox virtually identical to that of the 98I. At left, the three major components of the transmission casing. The differential cover (far left) doubles as the rear deformable structure, and is a magnesium casting on the real car. The Bellhousing and upper-brace are forged aluminium.

The model components are made from cold-cast aluminium composite material, and further extruded with the use of a milling-machine. From this point, suspension and other various components are mounted in place, though internal gearbox components are not fitted to this model.
