The Cheryl Studer Society, modeled on the British Musical Appreciation Societies, is open to members from all countries. It presently counts members in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, and its membership is expanding steadily. I founded the society in December 1993 to share with fellow music lovers information regarding this great artist whose career I have been following and documenting since I first heard her sing in 1986.

Each year, the Cheryl Studer Society issues the following publications:

A complete, detailed discography (updated annually). The next edition will contain the commercial audio and video recordings released up to the end of this year, plus radio broadcasts and TV programs, many of which are in the Society's archives.

A quarterly bulletin containing different sections: "On Stage" lists Cheryl Studer's engagements for the following months. "In the Recording Studios" announces the recordings in the making as well as those projected. "TV or Radio Broadcasts" provides TV/Radio listings. The "New Releases" section includes new audio and video recordings. The "Press Review" section quotes from magazines and newspapers, mostly Canadian, American and European, received during the previous three month period. (Click here to view a sample). The quarterly bulletin is accompanied by photocopies of press articles and material obtained from opera houses and concert halls (mainly photocopies of programs, cast lists, press articles) or received from members. Some issues of the bulletin also contain exclusive interviews.

An annual in-depth article on a specific topic (the one issued in 1996 covers Cheryl Studer singing Micaela (Bizet's Carmen) in Chicago in 1984, Lausanne in 1984-85, Hamburg in 1987 and at the Met in 1988. The in-depth article (about 20 pages) is followed by photocopies of the program and of the complete press review. (Click here for a sample). The next article will concentrate on Cheryl Studer's first major role: La traviata, in Braunschweig, in 1983.

Each bulletin is accompanied by press reviews of the recordings (from the archives of the Society), in chronological order, following the recording dates rather than the release dates, starting with the 1981 Die Walküre, conducted by Marek Janowski.

Any performance or broadcast due to take place before the following bulletin can be issued is announced in a special newsletter.

The Society's publications are not commercially available and are strictly reserved for its members.
