Above left: high-downforce sidepod winglet geometry differs slightly
from its 1998 counterpart. The most visible of these changes being the
relocation of the horizontal fence directly ahead of the winglet, which
is mounted lower for '97.
Above right: the same winglet assembly viewed from the side. Though
shudder panels may be fitted to the radiator outlet area to improve aerodynamic
efficiency at certain circuits, this particular car is devoid of any of
these, though the fixture-points are still visible along the ducting.
Above: rear wing assembly in standard configuration used
in 1997. Though this particular setup is still viable for '98 cars, the
majority of Reynard-shod teams have opted to use the "wing-foreward" option,
which re-locates the aerofoils foreward while the end-plates remain in
the same location; thus preserving the longitudinal dimensions of the car.
Above: rear-wing mounting posts attach to the differential cover
via four hexagonal bolts. Additional re-enforcements in the form of horizontal
cross-beams help to strengthen the wing assembly, as well as serve as hard-points
to jack-up the car in the event of a pneumatic jack failure. The under-wing
diffuser is of identical height and width on the '97 and '98 cars, though
the centerline housing for the starter-assembly/oil sump is slightly more
bulbous on the 97I.
